I’ve been playing Star Wars Outlaws on the Switch 2 in the little windows of free time I get, and it’s been a real highlight. It feels good to finally have a proper Star Wars adventure on a Nintendo console, which doesn’t happen often.
What stands out most is the tone. It’s big, and it’s gritty. The story dives into the criminal underworld instead of focusing on Jedi or Sith, which gives it a fresh feel. The score is cinematic, swelling in all the right places, and it makes the whole thing feel unmistakably Star Wars. The style reminds me a lot of Solo. That film gets plenty of hate, but I never thought it was all bad, and this game captures some of the same energy.
The gameplay is classic Ubisoft. A large open world, stealth sections that often end in chaos, and missions that give you options but usually descend into firefights. In many ways it feels like Assassin’s Creed, but at the same time, it reminds me also of Starlink: Battle for Atlas. Jumping into space, flying between planets, and dropping back into missions on foot feels seamless and satisfying.
The mission design works well for me as a dad. They often begin with stealth, build tension, and then explode into action. Usually because I’ve been spotted. Each mission fits into a short session, so I can pick it up, finish something, and put it down again without losing progress. That makes it perfect for half-hour play slots after bedtime.
I don’t know how the full story will unfold yet, but so far, I’m enjoying it a lot. Outlaws feels like a proper Star Wars adventure, and one that actually fits into my busy life. For me, that’s a win.
